Devin Moore, native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a recent graduate of the Juilliard School under the private instruction of Samuel Rhodes. He began his studies with Mr. Rhodes at the Manhattan School of Music in 2017 and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree at Juilliard with Misha Amory and Samuel Rhodes.
In 2016, Devin participated as a violinist in the National Youth Orchestra of the USA, performing around the States and Europe. In 2018, Devin was awarded an Orchestral Viola Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival and School, alongside an acceptance into the esteemed Finckel-Wu Han Chamber Music Studio. At Aspen, Devin performed as a chamber musician/soloist with Augustin Hadelich and Sarah Chang. In 2019, Devin attended the Sarasota Music Festival sitting principal violist and performing the Mendelssohn Octet with the Pacifica String Quartet. In 2020, Devin attended the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop and Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Program. In 2021, Devin attended the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Program, coaching with Joel Krosnick and Robert McDonald. Devin has also been invited to perform with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra as co-principal violist as well as the New York Philharmonic under the direction of John Williams. He is honored to be participating as a semi-finalist in the 2020 Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition in Birmingham, England. Devin is a founding member of the Isidore String Quartet and has coached with Joseph Lin, Laurie Smukler, Joel Krosnick, and Roger Tapping. Devin is also Co-Founder and Creative Director for Opus Illuminate, an online concert series dedicated to performing and raising awareness for works by composers of underrepresented communities in order to expand the horizons of conventional programming.
At MSM, Devin held the position of Co-Principal Violist and was a two-time winner of the Fuchs Chamber Music Competition. In 2018, Devin was named winner of the Fall 2018 MSM “Harold in Italy” Viola Competition, getting the chance to perform Berlioz’s “Harold in Italy” Viola Solo with the MSM Symphony under the direction of Leonard Slatkin.
At the Juilliard School, Devin has held the position of principal violist of the Juilliard Orchestra, Juilliard Orientation Orchestra, the Juilliard Chamber Orchestra, the Juilliard Lab Orchestra, the Juilliard Commencement Orchestra, and is a member of the 2020 and 2021 String Principal Pool for the Juilliard Orchestra. Devin participated in the 2020 Juilliard ChamberFest where he coached with Fred Sherry and Joseph Kalichstein. In December of 2020, Devin soloed with the Juilliard Orchestra, performing Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto VI. Outside of his musical endeavors, Devin was also an Undergraduate Classical Music Representative on the Inaugural Juilliard Student Congress and a current Graduate Classical Music Representative on the 2021-2022 Congress. At the 2021 Juilliard Commencement Ceremony, was awarded the esteemed Joseph W. Polisi Prize for his work at the institution.
Devin is a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship at The Juilliard School.
